- Hi guys! I guess the sentence “The only thing that should be separated by color is laundry.” has a figurative meaning here. Is it correct? If yes, what does it mean?

When you do laundry, it's a bad idea to mix different colours in the same load.The colours may blend (from bleeding together), creating an undesired result. The idea of the statement is that this is only a problem with mixing different coloured fabrics and is not a problem when mixing different coloured people. It's a plea for tolerance and racial equality.

I have to disagree with the banner. It's also a great idea to keep the pigments separate when painting a picture or redecorating a building.
