- Hi everybody! Is it correct to ask "If you're not afraid of heights, would you like to walk on this long scary iron ladder on the top of the mountain?" in this situation?

Your answers will be greatly appreciated.

I would call them steps, though ladder would certainly be understood.

The more horizontal section below is a walkway — in other words, an artificial path constructed to allow walkers to cross difficult, hazardous or easily damaged / disturbed terrain (such as in a nature reserve).

In the Alps, particularly in Italy, some rock faces have been opened up for tourists who do not have the skills or courage to actually climb the rock faces. These routes are made up of ladders and steel cables that you can use to clip yourself in using a harness. Such a route is known in Italian and English as a "via ferrata". The principle is similar to the one you depict, but you still need a certain amount of climbing skill and equipment.

Some can be very easy:

Some can present a mental challenge:

The path you show is not really scary. It might be a little alarming if it had no handrails...
