Which are correct:

1) It was more of a rock band than I would have liked. I preferred jazz.
2) It was more a rock band than I would have liked. I preferred jazz.

3) These groups were more rock bands than I would have liked. I preferred jazz.

Only 1) sounds like something a native speaker of English would choose to say.

Unless they hated jazz. Then they wouldn't say it. :lol:
