Post by Stevenloan » Thu Nov 17, 2016 3:49 pm

Hello there! What do you guys call a son or a daughter who uses a knife to injure or murder his or her parents?

Thanks a lot!

Patricide and matricide are the words for one who kills (or the act of killing) their father or mother. It seems that you are looking for words to describe how horrible (evil, twisted, sick, etc) such a person must be. There are numerous appropriate adjectives but I can’t think of any that relate specifically to this type of murder. History is full of horrendous people or people who committed horrendous acts but they didn’t necessarily kill their parents.

Patricide developed from parricide (which generally has the same meaning). Peculiarly, there is no analogous form marricide.

Alternatively, how about stabson and stabdaughter?

Erik, that's terrible. Of course, I laughed. Your "marricide" comment sent me off exploring and, check this out:
http://phrontistery.info/kill.html
That pretty well covers it. That's bigger than the Inuit's snow word list.

You call it terrible, trolley? I call it horrendous! ...My job here is done. :)

Well, almost. The Phrontistery people missed apicide, 'bee-killing'. Or possibly 'ape-killing'.

And what do you make of this word and definition:
utricide — one who stabs an inflated skin vessel instead of killing someone
I call that a tough choice, especially this year.

As I read through the list I tried to guess what they meant before looking. I got a few wrong.

Spermicide - killing of whales
Vespacide - writing off a motor scooter
Vaticide - destroying good grapes by poor winemaking techniques
Tyrannicide - killing large dinosaurs
Ovicide - dropping a carton of eggs
Liberticide - killing Hilary Clinton
Femicide- killing feminists

The funny thing is that of these 7 words, 5 are underlined in red as unknown words.

WoZ guilty of vinicide (the killing of good wine by ingestion)
