The race for prehistoric progress

We've created this area in the hope of seeing material ranging from some well-told (or well retold) jokes to original writing with a humorous slant, or anything else that might appeal to the kind of person who enjoys playing with words more than people. That probably means someone like yourself. N.B. -- Postings preceded by ** contain some sexual or risqué content. (Makes them easier to find.)

The race for prehistoric progress

After digging to a depth of 100 metres last year, Japanese scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 1000 years. They concluded that their ancestors already had an established telephone network one thousand years ago.

Not to be outdone, in the weeks that followed American scientists dug down 200 metres. The US papers wrote: "US scientists have found traces of 2000-year-old optical fibers, and have concluded that their ancestors already had high-tech digital telephones 1000 years earlier than the Japanese."

One week later, a Mexican newspaper reported the following: "Despite digging as deep as 500 metres, Mexican scientists have found absolutely nothing. They have thus concluded that 5000 years ago, their ancestors were already in possession of advanced wireless telephone technology."
