Billy Rose [1899-1966, U.S. lyricist, ‘Me and My Shadow,’ ‘I Found a Million Dollar Baby (in a Five and Ten Cent Store, . . .),’ ‘It's Only a Paper Moon’] and theatrical producer (Carmen Jones, . . . ) asked his cousin ‘Does your Spearmint lose its flavor on the bedpost over night?’ and cowrote (with Marty Bloom in 1924) the song further popularized in 1961 by British singer Lonnie Donegan (of 1956 ‘Rock Island Line’ fame) – ‘Does the Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavor on the Bedpost Overnight’ (Wrigley made them stop using the word ‘Spearment in 1948):

Donegan version chorus: Does your chewing gum lose its' flavor / On the bedpost overnight / If your mother says don't chew it / Do you swallow it in spite? / Can you catch it on your tonsils? / Can you heave it left and right? / Does your chewing gum lose its' flavor / On the bedpost overnight?
