Sprog (just self amused musing)

Post by tony h » Sat Mar 02, 2019 7:14 pm

To start this post I thought I had better look up Sprog.

Starting in 1941 we have:
1. Services' slang. A new recruit; a trainee; a novice.

Then by 1945 we get:
2. slang (orig. Naut.). A youngster; a child, a baby.

So when I saw the Danish advert for the Sprogcenter I was hoping it would turn out to be a kindergarten. But no such luck. Apparently it seems to mean language learning centre. I found that gave rise to an amused smile.

I'm puzzled therefore I think.

I think WoZ might have a different idea of a Sprogcentre...

Tony did point out it was nautical slang. Precisely the sort of thing seamen would use...
