The youth of today

Just thought this gives us some hope for the future.

My grand niece, aged 10, came home today having won an vocabulary competition for her school year: one point for the meaning of the word and one point for the spelling. She won by two points on the word schadenfreude. Ironically my grand niece found great amusement that her mother could neither give a meaning nor spell schadenfreude.

In other words, your grand-niece was exhibiting Schadenfreude at her mother's contrasting unfamiliarity with the term.

The child shows promise.
