Could someone better-read than I provide a link to the announcement of the U.S. Socialist leader declaring that all of Socialism's goals had been met in this country

Thanks guys

Bob: No, really, this is perfectly serious. Many decades ago one of the top U.S. Socialist leaders proclaimed that all his goals had been achieved in the U.S.

russ: I had submitted it under "Miscellaneous" but I suppose it was switched into Language Discussion by some obscure Bill Gatesian algorithm over which none of us has any control

I understand that if you type your middle name, substituting an F for the second letter on a Tueswday between 3:00 and 4:46 pm, then stretch the left side of your mouth down while depressing simultaneously S and #, then the Universe will be destroyed

Unless that letter actually was an F, in which case only the Western Hemisphere will disappear

Edited to remark that I see now how "Miscellaneous" is a subdivision of "Language Forums". Feel free to switch it into a category where it fits better, perhaps "Addicts Corner"

You have to forgive the foibles of an old fart on the brink of senility

However, that subcategory is under "Beyond Words," and I don't see how my thread is beyond words, nor am I an addict

Again, I'd really appreciate if anyone who remembers his history could give me a lead. I've tried Googling but I can't remember the Socialist Maximo's name

Edited to remark that it might have been Norman Thomas but my being essentially lazy, I hate to have to wade through 361,000 more hits; and so I hoped one of you guys, who are much more erudite and scholarly than I, might be able to help at the drop of a hat

Thanks again most kindly for all present and past help

You are my last hope

Dale
This bloke

quotes Norman Thomas thus
Even the late Norman Thomas, who was elated when he saw FDR embrace and even introduce many of the policies he had advocated in his run for President under the Socialist Party banner, was aware of the transformation of the Democrat Party. In fact he has been quoted as saying:

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." Norman Thomas, former U.S. Socialist Presidential Candidate
I don't think it's a lot of help to you, but it's the best I can do.

Bob, thank you, it is indeed a lot of help

Incidentally a similar quotation might have come from Eugene V. Debs
