My dad has just given up trying to re-re-schedule the appointment the Hospital has just re-scheduled at a minute's notice because the person on the desk didn't seem to understand that it is possible to re-schedule appointments.

Though it's slightly OT, in spite of my left-leaning proclivities, I agree with Erik, Russ, and Ed that if you're in an environment where the accurate use of English devolves on human well-being or the expenditure of large sums, then you should be fluent in the Mother Tongue. I will never forgive Home Depot for this (see archive: absumo contra exoculo)
