Re: Weather

Steve the use of unstable with reference to weather is a bigger term. Unstable weather refers to the atmospheric patterns that collide to cause major weather events. It is not used with local daily changes.

Re: Sea change

Well one never ceases to come to know what one doesn't know. This particular word first came to my notice here in Aus when everyone was talking about the retiring baby boomers, many of whom were looking to downsize from the family home and move to smaller communities. These invariably were on the co...

That is how I have always understood language to be. This comes from my Linguistic studies, oh the foolish days of youth, and psych studies, even more foolish days, and personal observations. Counting is another good topic to observe the difference between cultures.

Re: Coffee

Steve the two things you speak of are entirely different to me. "I like drinking coffee with milk" >> For me this means coffee that has been made as drip filter or percolated or even instant but essentially as a water based coffee. Then a person adds the amount of milk that they require from a dribb...

Re: Pineapple

Steve I would use the would tangy or tart , Both of these words encompass an acidic feel in the mouth. Depending upon the individual it can be unpleasant. This is often offset in fruit salads by the inclusion of a sweeter fruit, eg mango. On medical and other matters you can't put pineapple in a jel...
