Just to add, I think usage in the UK now is just "mobile" alone, or sometimes "phone" alone...the implication being that a real phone is a mobile, and landlines are something from the past.

here, when it is coming down in sheets, we usually add "but it is brightening up over there". Which reminds me that when we first came to Wales, our neighbour pointed out that if you cannot see across the valley, it is raining, but if you can, it is going to rain. Just thought I'd join in and say that as a fellow (ex) northerner, my mother's sister is definitely my "ant", and when I listen to myself saying "aren't" it has definitely got more of an "r" in it than when I imagine a southerner saying "aunt" and also I would only ever say "ain't" if I were imitati...
