Re: Hold liquor

Keep in mind, Steve, you're asking a bunch of old men. I think, by now, most of us have have figured out where that "hold" line is. The contest ended years ago. :D

Re: Steamed apple snails

Apple snails are an invasive species from South America that are spreading quickly and causing a lot of problems, especially in Southeast Asia. I didn't realize they were edible...I guess that's a good way to get rid of them. I have eaten escargots (land snails) many times and quite enjoy them (what...

"Jesus the Christ" seems appropriate, but underused.

Re: Flying kites

Kite flying is not nearly as popular in North America as it is in other parts of the world, especially Asia. Growing up in the 60s, I built a few and flew a few but it was not something we did on a regular basis. My last experience was about 25 years ago when my daughter and I built one and took it ...

Re: Vaccine humour

Good one, Tony. Anytime you say Worcestershire sauce, over here, it sparks a discussion about the pronunciation. I avoid that by referring to it as Lea and Perrins. None of their other sauces or marinades are readily available in Canada, so there's usually no confusion. Lea and Perrins is "Wooster" ...

I've experienced it three times. It is terrifying. Each episode only lasted two or three seconds but that was more than enough.

Re: A bottle of wine

I'm not sure what the "rules" are, Steve. If I invited someone over for dinner and they brought a bottle I would probably open it and serve it. If they brought it as a gift (my birthday, house-warming, etc.) then I probably wouldn't, especially if it was gift-wrapped. You could always just ask, "Sha...

That is curious, Steve. If you said to me, "The boy is a Zodiac younger than me", without any other information, I'd probably be inclined to think you meant he was 1 year (12 months) younger.

Re: if not

You are correct. The two sentences do not mean the same thing. The second one is just wrong...whatever it is trying to say. "If not" John's house means "maybe even John's house". It is often used to add a greater degree of impact to the first part of the sentence. The fire damaged many, if not all, ...
