It Happened in Pisa

Have you ever been to Pisa? Many years ago, I was touring Italy with a friend and we went there. That was in the days when you could still go up the tower. The place was seething with tourists going "Oh, my God, it really leans. No, I mean it reeeally leans!". We stood at the end of a queue and shuf...

How you read it.

There is a man in our village by the name of Edward Deidde. He spent his entire life explaining that his surname was "deed".
He collapsed yesterday and was airlifted to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Re: Flat tire / a puncture

A lot of cars these days do not carry a spare. The one we have now does not. Instead we have an aerosol can that does some sort of repair to get us to the nearest safe spot.

Re: Shoot

Steven, "shoot" used like that is a minced oath. What the speaker would like to say is "Oh shit!", but is too polite.
In a situation like that, I would have said, "Damn I forgot", "Bugger I forgot", "Sod it I forgot" "Blast I forgot". None of which are minced, but the bloody list is endless.

Re: A bottle of wine

"Does Britain refer to England or the UK as a whole?"
England is a part of Britain, as is Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
WIKIPEDIA gets it right.

Re: A bottle of wine

" When I mentioned England, I meant the four countries (England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland). " I thought that that is what you meant Steven and you are very wrong. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, " The UK " for short, is made up of the four nations that you list (Southern...

I never knew that. I wonder if it relates to the shape, and in that case which came first?

Re: A bottle of wine

I have thought hard about writing this Steven, but I have decided to.
You asked, "What is the correct etiquette in England, Canada and The US". Did you mean England or the UK? I am a Welshman living in Wales, a nation and part of the UK as is Scotland, Northern Ireland and England.

I might be dead by now if he hadn't helped me seems to trip off the tongue more easily.

Re: A change of name

You are very kind Erik. I admit that I do enjoy searching them out and making up a few of my own of course.
I do admit that most are collected elsewhere and crowbarred into the pub though.
